GCE 'N' Level
Students in the Normal course follow either the Normal (Academic) or Normal (Technical) curriculum.
Normal (Academic) course
In the Normal (Academic) course, students offer 6-8 subjects in the GCE ‘N’ Level examination. These include compulsory subjects such as English Language, Mother Tongue and Mathematics. For upper secondary, Combined Humanities and a Science subject are also compulsory. The school also offers GCE ‘O’ Level Mathematics and Mother Tongue Language at Secondary 4 to selected N(A) students who perform well.
Since 2012, two N(A) through-train pathways have been made available to Sec 4N(A) students taking their GCE ‘N’-Level examinations: the Polytechnic Foundation Programme and the Direct-Entry-Scheme-to-Polytechnic Programme. These two pathways present new applied learning options and progression opportunities at the polytechnics and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) for N(A) students who do well in their studies. N(A) students who are not interested in these programmes or who are not eligible can proceed on to Sec 5 to take their GCE ‘O’ Level examination.
- Polytechnic Foundation ProgrammeThe Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP) is a one-year programme that offers a practice-oriented curriculum taught by polytechnic lecturers, to better prepare polytechnic-bound N(A) students for entry into the relevant Polytechnic Diploma courses. This is an alternative to the Sec 5 year. PFP students are given provisional places in diploma programmes, subject to them passing all modules in the one-year PFP. To be eligible to apply for the PFP, students must obtain ELMAB3 (English, Math, Best 3 Subjects) raw aggregate score of 11 points or better (excluding CCA bonus points) at the GCE ‘N’-Level examination and meet certain subject-specific requirements. - Direct-Entry-Scheme-to-Polytechnic ProgrammeThe Direct-Entry-Scheme-to-Polytechnic Programme (DPP) is a through-train pathway for N(A) students who do well in their GCE ‘N’-Levels, and who will benefit from hands-on and experiential learning at the ITE by enrolling in a Higher Nitec programme immediately after Sec 4. Graduates from the DPP will also be assured of either a first- or second-year place in a related Polytechnic Diploma course, provided they achieve the qualifying ITE Grade Point Average (GPA) in their Higher Nitecprogramme. To be eligible to apply for the DPP, students must obtain ELMAB3 (English, Math, Best 3 Subjects) raw aggregate score of 19 points or better (excluding CCA bonus points) at the GCE ‘N’-Level examination and meet certain subject-specific requirements. Normal (Technical) course
In the Normal (Technical) course, students offer 5-7 subjects in the GCE ‘N’ Level examination. This curriculum prepares them for a technical-vocational education at the Institute of Technical Education. The curriculum is geared towards strengthening students’ proficiency in English and Mathematics. Students take English Language, Mathematics, Basic Mother Tongue and Computer Applications as compulsory subjects.
