LKY-ONC Award1.png2016 Lee Kuan Yew Award For Outstanding Normal Course Students (LKY-ONC Award)

The LKY-ONC Award is given at the end of secondary education to recognise well-rounded students from the normal course who have excelled in both academic and non-academic spheres, and who exemplify the qualities articulated in our desired outcomes of education. We are very proud of our student, Tan Wei Jie (408), who has received this prestigious national award. Having performed exceedingly well in the 2015 GCE N(T)-Level Examination, Wei Jie returned to XMS to pursue the 4N(A) course in 2016. Wei Jie is truly exemplary in his attitude towards learning and his mindset for excellence. 



2016 Commonwealth Essay Writing Competition

This competition is open to youths from Commonwealth countries such as the U.K., Canada, Pakistan, India, Australia and South Africa. The theme this year was ‘An Inclusive Commonwealth’ with a focus on community, diversity and overcoming differences.

2016 International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) 

The ICAS is a highly regarded assessment programme in subjects such as English (Writing), English (Comprehension), Mathematics and Science, organised by the University of New South Wales (Australia). It helps students to identify their level of academic performance in the various subjects. Students who participate in the assessment programme receive comprehensive hard copy and online reports of their individual performance, and also a certificate to recognise their achievement in the ICAS test(s).

2016 Singapore Junior Chemistry Olympiad (SJChO)

This competition is organised by the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry for upper secondary students. SJChO provides a platform for students to challenge themselves in chemical knowledge and skills. It also seeks to promote the excitement of learning and doing Chemistry, as well as to identify and develop talents. All participants had to attempt a theory paper held in May. Selected students were then invited for a round of practical tests in July.

2016 Singapore Mathematical Olympiad (SMO)

This competition is organised by the Singapore Mathematical Society to generate interest in Mathematics, challenge and stretch students’ Mathematical potential, and nurture Mathematical talents in our youths. Many students from the schools in Singapore take part in this annual competition.

2016 Singapore Junior Physics Olympiad (SJPO)

The Singapore Junior Physics Olympiad (SJPO) is a Physics competition organised by the Institute of Physics Singapore and is catered to secondary school students. This is an annual competition to encourage the study and appreciation of Physics among all secondary school students. In addition, it is also a competition to highlight Physics talents and also as part of the process to identify students for early training for the IPhO (International Physics Olympiad).
